Dental care along with sheath cleaning while under sedation is the focus of the practice. The visit starts with a cardiovascular exam to be sure your horse is fit for sedation. A complete oral exam under sedation follows. Dr. Thomas usually takes digital photographs of your horse's mouth for her records and will chart the abnormalities present. If additional charges are necessary she will let you know after the exam. The exam is followed by odontoplasty, which is also known as occlusal adjustment or "floating." Because Dr. Thomas is a veterinarian, she can also consult with you about your horse's nutrition and deworming needs. Lucknow Equine is about helping your horse's digestive system be all that it can be!
Please support your local veterinarian for vaccinations and contact him or her for all emergencies.
Dr. Thomas works at a variety of horse events around the area including being a treatment and control vet at endurance rides. She also does some part time work at a small animal clinic, but is generally available multiple days per week to see her equine patients. Check Facebook or contact Dr. T via email or text to see when she will be in your area!

Annual dental examinations are as important for your horse as they are for you and me. While a horse doesn't necessarily need floating yearly, it is important to assess the mouth to catch abnormalities early and prevent future problems. Check out this document for some more information on how to recognize if your horse has a dental problem.
Dr. Thomas truly enjoys dentistry and not only makes sure your horse is orally sound for purposes of wellness but can also let you know if your horse's teeth are the reason he might not be responding so well to that bit. Lucknow Equine is equipped with power dental floats and Dr. Thomas has been working with horse teeth for almost 20 years. She continues her education on teeth every year with specialized continuing education events -- the dental field is a growing and changing one. What was recommended 10 years ago is NOT what is recommended now for the health of the tooth. It's certainly worth the price of one shoeing to be sure your horse is in tip-top shape. Contact us to set up an appointment.
